T. Harv Eker’s book Secrets of the Millionaire Mind shows us the mindset and habits of rich people.

The book is fun and engaging. It gives us the opportunity to “look into the head” of a millionaire, and it also offers exercises and tips about money.

This book is not about investing or an actual business – it’s about our money mindset.

T. Harv Eker’s story

T. Harv Eker is a businessman, author, and motivational speaker. His net worth is estimated at $3.5 million. Sounds like someone who can teach us a thing or two about money, right? 🙂

In the past, he had a number of failed businesses and was always out of money. He decided to re-evaluate his relationship to money and figure out why he couldn’t earn it and keep it.

He studied the mindset and habits of rich people. He began to reprogram his mind and think and act like successful people.

Then, in two and a half years, he became a millionaire.

Secrets of the Millionaire Mind – what is it about?

In the first part, we become aware of our “money blueprint”. We look into our beliefs about money.

  • What were we taught about money when we were little?
  • What do we believe about money?
  • What do we think about wealthy people?
  • Do we believe it’s easy or difficult to get the money?

In the first part of the book, we start to become aware of our money beliefs. We look at what we have been taught about money and get exercises to challenge our beliefs.

In the second part of the book, T. Harv Eker introduces us to 17 ways of thinking of rich people. He calls them “wealth files.”

Each of the “wealth files” shows us the differences between the wealth mindset and the poverty mindset.

Why read the Secrets of the Millionaire Mind?

It’s not just about the money

The foundation of the book is the mindset of the rich. But the book is a lot more than just about money and business.

It’s about the way of thinking in all areas of life. It shows us a mindset of not only rich but successful and happy people.

The book reminds us that we need to start thinking differently in several areas of our lives.

We become aware of our mindset

After reading the Secrets of the Millionaire Mind, we start to become aware of our negative thought patterns, for example:

1. We complain and blame others

2. We don’t think we deserve wealth

3. We don’t value our work

4. We think negatively about promoting ourselves

5. We think about problems instead of solutions

6. We think we’re not in control of our lives

7. We judge rich people out of habit

8. We make our decisions based on fear

Awareness of these thought patterns is the first step to change.

Secrets of the Millionaire Mind – my favorite takeaways

1. Complaining and victim mentality

We become aware of how often we play the victim and complain. The author challenges us not to complain for a week, neither out loud nor in our minds. This really works wonders.

2. Our thoughts about rich people

What do we really think about rich people? Were we taught that they are corrupt?

T. Harv Eker doubted that rich people are good until he got to know them. He describes an encounter with his wealthy neighbors.

He says how almost all the rich people he knows are kind, generous, and regularly donate to charity.

3. Self-promotion

“Good wine needs no bush”? It’s not good to advertise ourselves too much? People will somehow find our services by themselves?

T. Harv Eker disagrees! He says that wealthy people know how to advertise their abilities. They enthusiastically present their services and ideas.

The author asks us how much we believe in our product on a scale from 1-10. We need to start believing in our own products and promote ourselves without any shame.

“Rich people are willing to promote themselves and their value. Poor people think negatively about selling and promotion.” – T. Harv Eker

4. Are we willing to receive?

“Nothing has meaning except for the meaning you give it.” – T. Harv Eker. The feeling that we are not worthy of something becomes our reality. If we are not open to receiving money, we will not get it.

T. Harv Eker tells us that rich people are great receivers. They believe that they should be well rewarded for their work.

“It’s simple: If you aren’t willing to receive your share, it will go to someone else who is.” – T. Harv Eker

5. Getting paid based on results, not time

T. Harv Eker says we won’t get rich if we’re getting paid by the hour. The rich are paid based on the results they achieve, commissions, or percentages of revenue.

“You’ll never get rich working on straight salary for someone else. If you’re going to get a job, make sure you get paid on percentage. Otherwise, go work for yourself !” – T. Harv Eker’s dad

Summary

I recommend this book to anyone who doesn’t have as much money as they would like. So probably everyone! 🙂

Don't wish for it. Work for it

In the first part of the book, Harv Eker shows us which mental limitations prevent us from making more money.

In the second part of the book, Harv Eker shows us 17 differences between the (money) mindset of wealthy and poor people.

As we read the book, we start to become aware of our (money) mindset. We do exercises, and we gradually begin to change our thought patterns. This book can change us for the better – I highly recommend it.
