Too much sitting

We should get up and stretch every half an hour when sitting for long periods of time.

In Australia, more than 3,300 government workers were included in a study. Those who sat 6 hours or more in their workday were more prone to psychological distress than those who sat 3 hours or less. Source: Psychology Today.

Not enough aerobic exercise

During aerobic exercise, our breathing and heart rate increase. Such exercise has many positive effects on our well-being.

Being stuck on negative thoughts

We can quickly get stuck in negative thinking. Surprisingly enough, the hormone cortisol plays a role in negative thinking, too.

Cortisol can actually stimulate our negative thoughts. Positive thinking requires more effort (until we get used to it, at least), and cortisol makes it even harder for us. Source:

Not practicing gratitude

Focusing on the things we lack puts us under pressure. Focusing on the things that we already have and feeling gratitude for them reduces our stress levels.

1. Aerobic exercise

Aerobic exercise increases our breathing and heart rate. Examples of aerobic exercise are running, cycling, and swimming.
